WHO IS POPE PHOENIX?

Pope Phoenix is a New York–based illustrator creating emotionally driven portraiture, editorial illustration, and visual storytelling centered on identity, culture, and human presence. His work combines graphic structure with organic texture, blending stylized realism with expressive character design and layered narrative imagery. With more than 20 years of experience in digital illustration and design, he has developed a distinct visual language focused on emotion, perception, and storytelling.

His clients and collaborators include IBM, BET, ESSENCE, PBS, and Okayplayer. Phoenix is also a featured creative partner with Affinity and has led illustration workshops at Canva Create in 2026 focused on visual storytelling, creative process, and scalable illustration systems. His ongoing portrait series, ABOUT FACE, explores projection, emotional identity, and the assumptions people place onto others through digitally illustrated portraiture.
